In 1936 the Civil War starts in Spain. Ibiza and Formentera are subject to tragic episodes by both the Nationals and the Republicans. Hundreds of people are shot.

Top left: Some peasants are discussing politics and on the right sad parents are crying as their children are being shot. On the far right, two men shake hands under the flight of white doves of peace. War is over, it is time for reconciliation.

Lower centre: A typical matanza is a celebration for the annual killing of a fattened pig to make sobrasada and butifara sausages for the year to come. Typical Baile Pages, the dances with traditional costumes and music that originated a long time ago in the Middle East.

Below: Typical furniture and irons.
